Raising Boys Books - My Review

I personally find these books on Raising Boys interesting and worth to get a hand on to equip ourselves:

Raising Cain: Protecting the Emotional Life of BoysSpeaking of Boys: Answers to the Most-Asked Questions About Raising Sons

These are two popular books written by Dr Michael Thompson from whom i'd learnt a great deal about the emotional life of boys and how to help them travel their difficult road to manhood. An experienced child psychologist, he has also written several other closely related books. Raising Cain is also available in DVD Raising Cain: Exploring the Inner Lives of America's Boys. I watched it to refresh myself recently.

That's My Son: How Moms Can Influence Boys to Become Men of Character
With refreshing honesty and a man's insight, author Rick Johnson offers the advice, understanding and support every mum is looking for when it comes to raising sons. Using extensive research and humorous personal experiences, he addresses tough issues such as communication, discipline, sexuality and respect. Mothers, including single mum as well as grandmothers and teachers will find wise counsel and reassurance in this practical and helpful book.

Wild Things: The Art of Nurturing BoysThis is written by Stephen James and David Thomas. In this book, they guide their readers through the five stages of a boy's development, detailing each stage, along with new principles to put into action. They also cover vital topics which parents should discuss with their boys such as sex, homosexuality and pornography. They laid out three most important factors in keeping a boy from experimenting with drugs, along with the role of a father and a mother.

Heroes for My Son
When Brad Meltzer's first son was born eight years ago, the bestselling writer and new father started compiling a list of heroes whose virtues and talents he wanted to share with his son: Abraham Lincoln, Rosa Parks, Jim Henson, Amelia Earhart, Muhammad Ali . . . and so many more, each one an ordinary person who was able to achieve the extraordinary. The list grew to include the fifty-two amazing people now gathered in Heroes for My Son, a book that parents and their children—sons and daughters alike—can now enjoy together as they choose heroes of their own. It is an unforgettable book of timeless wisdom, one that families everywhere can share again and again.

Sh*t My Dad SaysAfter being dumped by his girlfriend, author Justin Halpern returned home to stay with his parents. This is a light-hearted account of how he sees his aging father through new adult eyes. There are many interesting “quotations” from his old man. This book is definitely an entertaining reading for any dad. Take note, however, there may be many account of real-life conversation dotted with frank and brutal honesty which may deem offensive to some.
